Translators and interpreter accreditation used to be life-time, once one passes the examinations set by NAATI [National Accreditation Authority of Translators and Interpreters] until a few years ago. Starting from October 2017, a transitioning process has kicked in, where those life-time practitioners under the old system will be encouraged to apply to be re-certified under the new system, by submitting their working experience and professional development in the last three years. And from then on, like other professionals, translators and interpreters will need to be renew their license/accreditation every three years. This is an effort to weed out dormant or non-practicing translators and interpreters, and improve the overall quality of existing practitioners.
